Listen TOO: 30 Hours
Been listening to Kanye's new album The Life of Pablo (which just got released this week on Apple Music) must say it is pretty great and definitely will live up to be one of his best.
The entire album feels very free flowing and breathable. His production work is on point as usual and he does some interesting stuff blending parts of songs into other tracks so it feels like one giant live set done on the fly.
One interesting thing about 30 Hours is Kanye sampled a very small unknown artist named Arthur Russell. A prolific recording artist, Russell produced a considerable collection of material over the course of his career, including a number of successful underground dance hits under various aliases, but his near-chronic inability to complete projects resulted in a limited amount of released output; World of Echo (1986) would be his only full-length solo album to see release during his lifetime. I love that Kanye did this for this artist, now tons of people will dive into Russell's catalog and he will finally get the recognition he deserves. That is one thing most people do not realize about Kanye, he is very much a student of Music and very open minded on where he gets ideas and inspiration from. He did a phenomenal job on this song and by far my favorite track on his new album.
